Amulet

Seeing a prayer recited in a dream according to the ways of the Prophet to aid an ill person signifies relief from hardships, removal of worries, and alleviation of grief. However, if the talisman or charm bears a private incantation or desire, it represents only deception, untruth, pretense, and insincerity. If the one uttering the incantation in the dream is an artisan, it indicates he cheats others and falsifies his work. If he is a learned person, it means he conceals truth, withholds genuine knowledge, refrains from proper guidance, or perhaps performs inferior acts of devotion. If the reciter in the dream is a judge, it suggests he will issue an unjust ruling. If one is offered water in a dream over which particular prayers have been said, it denotes long life. If a person sees himself pronouncing an incantation or hears one said for him in a dream, it amounts to nothing truthful except a supplication that says: 'In the Name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful' or includes a verse from the Qur'an.

Ceiling

A ceiling in a dream stands for an honored or influential person. If it is wooden, it symbolizes someone deceitful or unreliable. If it appears ready to collapse over one’s head, it reflects fear of a powerful figure. Should dust or debris fall onto one’s clothing, it indicates receiving money as compensation after hardship. If the main pillar supporting the ceiling breaks or falls, it signals the death of the head of that household. A collapsing ceiling likewise points to his death. Hiding beneath a roof suggests returning home to steal from one’s own family. Water dripping from a ceiling signifies mourning for the deceased or sorrow over an ill family member. If rain causes the ceiling to disintegrate, it means financial loss or falling from favor. Standing on a roof and being unable to descend points to imprisonment. The ceiling’s central beam represents a hypocrite who backs corrupt associates; if it breaks, such a person will be removed from authority. If the ceiling falls upon someone, punishment or suffering will strike him. Seeing stars beneath one’s roof warns that the ceiling may soon cave in. (Also see Cave-in)

Chair

(Seat) A chair in a dream symbolizes authority, status, or a woman. A chair made of cast iron signifies strength and dominance. A wooden one indicates something similar but lesser, along with insincerity. Taking a seat on a chair in a dream signifies assuming the role of trustee, representative, lawyer, or agent. For someone eligible to lead or manage affairs, sitting on a chair foretells receiving such a position. A traveler dreaming of sitting on a chair predicts returning home, rejoining family, and achieving desired aims. For those in power, a chair denotes an official post, advancement, recognition, wedlock, offspring, acquiring valuable possessions, a new conveyance, or fine clothing. Discovering a chair and settling into it in a dream means acquiring influence or wedding a lady whose dignity and refinement match the chair's qualities. When a wife is expecting, seeing oneself seated on a chair indicates she will deliver a boy. Sitting on a chair while dressed in majestic attire in a dream means ascending to a place of learning, respect, and esteem, with prompt rewards following. A chair breaking in a dream might signal the dreamer's death, his spouse's passing, their parting, or loss of control in household or professional matters. A chair also represents joy and elevation for its occupant, or it may denote spiritual triumph, divine pardon in the afterlife, and admission to paradise. For a pregnant woman, sitting on a chair symbolizes her childbirth and delivery time. Wearing a crown in such a vision means bearing a son. Beholding the Divine Throne of God Almighty in its flawless state, positioned in the uppermost heaven beyond any human conception or imagery in a dream, signifies gaining profound insight, understanding, and advancement in rank. A chair further indicates giving birth, journeys, means of transport, purchasing a residence, or starting a virtuous habit that others will imitate. For someone ill, a chair represents the bed of final illness. (Also see Saddle, Seat, Throne)

Chess

In Islamic dream interpretation, according to the great scholars of ta’bīr such as Ibn Sirin, Al-Nabulsi, Ibn Shaheen and Al-Dhahabi (may Allah have mercy on them all), seeing or playing the game of chess (in Arabic: shatranj الشطرنج) in a dream is one of the most profound and multi-layered symbols related to worldly struggles, politics, strategy, power, deception, and the affairs of nations and individuals. Chess in a dream almost always reflects mixing with all kinds of people from different levels of society, because the chessboard contains kings, queens, knights, soldiers and pawns moving together in one arena. Thus the dream indicates involvement in complex social, professional or political environments where alliances are formed and broken. The primary meaning of playing chess in a dream is engagement in cunning plans, strategies, and maneuvers that mirror real-life political, military or business conflicts. Every move one makes on the chessboard in the dream corresponds directly to steps and decisions that will be taken in the political or worldly arena. The dream therefore serves as both a reflection of current power struggles and a warning or guidance about future outcomes. Seeing a chessboard with no one playing it signifies a major crisis, a strike, dismissal of employees, suspension of work, or a period of tense calm before a storm in public affairs of state or a workplace. When people are seen actively playing chess in the dream, those players represent leaders, statesmen, commanders, high officials or influential figures who are currently plotting, negotiating or competing for power. Winning a chess game in the dream is an extremely glad tiding: it means the dreamer will be victorious in a real political, military, legal or business struggle. Victory on the board translates directly into victory in wakefulness, including gaining authority, wealth, booty, uncovering hidden matters, or overcoming dangerous opponents. Conversely, losing the game or being checkmated warns of defeat, humiliation, financial loss, exposure of secrets, or falling into a trap, or failure of one’s plans. Chess knight

The knight is considered one of the most distinctive pieces on the chessboard because of its unique L-shaped movement, which allows it to “jump” over other pieces and reach unexpected places. This very characteristic is what gives it its symbolic depth in dreams. The core meanings of the chess knight are contracts, partnerships, and money matters, where the knight often represents a deal, covenant, treaty, or business agreement that is about to be concluded. It may indicate quick financial gain, profitable trade, or money that arrives through cleverness and strategy rather than straightforward effort. Because the knight moves in an unpredictable and indirect way, it can symbolize a clever person, a strategist, or even deception and trickery in dealings. If the dreamer feels uneasy about the knight in the dream, it may warn of being cheated or entering into a contract that contains hidden clauses. Just as the knight can suddenly change direction and “leap” to a distant square, its appearance may point to rapid developments in life, whether positive (a surprise opportunity) or negative (an unforeseen problem). In some interpretations, the horse piece is linked to swift movement from one place to another, so it can indicate short journeys, relocation for work, or migration in search of livelihood. In certain contexts, particularly when the knight is seen attacking, falling, or appearing in a dark or threatening manner, it may symbolize the approach of death for a person who is already gravely ill. This is because the knight’s leap can represent the soul suddenly “jumping” from the body. However, this meaning is not absolute and depends heavily on the overall feeling of the dream. A white knight is usually more positive: lawful money, honourable contracts, and success through intelligence and piety. A black knight tends toward caution: possible deceit, illicit gain, or dealings with dishonest people. Capturing or controlling the knight in the dream is an excellent sign; the dreamer will gain the upper hand in a negotiation or overcome a cunning opponent. Losing the knight or seeing it captured can indicate financial loss, a broken agreement, or falling victim to someone else’s schemes. If the dreamer is playing chess and the knight plays a decisive role, the dream often reflects real-life situations that require careful planning and foresight. The knight should not be interpreted in isolation. Seeing it alongside the full chessboard, other chessmen (especially the king or queen), or an actual game in progress adds further nuance: with the king it involves matters of authority, government contracts, or high-level negotiations; with pawns it indicates dealings with subordinates or small but numerous transactions; an empty chessboard with only the knight suggests a solitary but clever endeavour that will bring benefit. In summary, the chess knight in a dream is a powerful and multifaceted symbol in Islamic dream interpretation. It almost always points to movement in worldly affairs, whether through clever business deals, sudden financial opportunities, strategic planning, or warnings about deception and hidden motives. For the sick, it may carry a graver meaning related to the final “leap” of the soul. As with all dreams, the final interpretation depends on the dreamer’s personal circumstances, the emotions felt during the dream, and the other symbols that appear alongside it. Chess queen

The queen is the most powerful piece on the chessboard, capable of moving any distance vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. Because of this immense freedom and strength, it has long ago became associated with persons of great influence, leadership, and elevated social or political standing. Thus, its appearance in a dream almost always points to matters of power, prestige, and honour. The primary meaning of the chess queen in a dream is the attainment or closeness to a noble, distinguished, or lofty rank. This may signify promotion to a high position, gaining favour with rulers, ministers, governors, or influential figures, or achieving leadership within one’s community, workplace, or family. For a man, it can represent a powerful and supportive wife of noble character, a high-ranking female relative, or a woman who brings him honour and protection. For a woman dreaming of the queen, it often indicates her own rise in dignity, respect, and authority among people, or marriage to a man of elevated status. A white queen is overwhelmingly positive: it denotes lawful authority, honourable elevation, lasting respect, and success accompanied by piety and justice. A black queen, while still indicating power and rank, carries a note of caution: the authority or influential woman may be harsh, domineering, or the rise in status may involve trials, envy, or dealings with oppressive figures. If the dreamer sees himself or herself possessing, moving, or controlling the queen with ease, it is a glad tidings of upcoming dominance, victory over rivals, and the fulfilment of ambitious goals. Capturing the opponent’s queen foretells overcoming a powerful adversary or inheriting the status of an influential person. Conversely, losing one’s own queen warns of downfall from a high position, loss of support from an important woman or patron, or humiliation after a period of honour. When the queen appears alongside the king, the dream usually concerns matters of state, government, or the highest levels of leadership. If both pieces are safe and strong, it indicates stability and prosperity under just authority. If the queen protects or saves the king, it may symbolise a wise woman (mother, wife, daughter, or female advisor) who will play a decisive role in preserving the dreamer’s honour or position. Chessboard

The chessboard, with its alternating black and white squares, is regarded as a perfect representation of the dunyā (this world) in all its affairs and trials. Just as the board raises certain pieces to prominence while lowering or capturing others, so does this world elevate some of its inhabitants to honour, wealth and authority one day, only to humiliate, impoverish or destroy them the next. The black and white squares themselves symbolise the perpetual alternation between ease and hardship, joy and sorrow, victory and defeat, truth and falsehood, day and night, life and death. If the dreamer sees himself standing upon the chessboard or moving pieces upon it, the dream indicates that he is deeply involved in the affairs of this world—pursuing ambitions, competing with others, and being tested by the constant fluctuations of fortune. If the board is beautiful, clean and well-lit, it may point to a life of relative balance and lawful striving, whereas a broken, dirty or tilted board warns of chaos, injustice, oppression or impending calamity in one’s personal or communal life. Chessmen

Seeing the castle (rook, or in Arabic: al-rukhّ الرخ or al-ṭābiya الطابية) – one of the chess pieces – in a dream carries predominantly difficult and heavy meanings, in contrast to many other chess pieces that are linked to power or strategy. The castle piece is strong, moves in straight lines, and is usually placed at the corners of the board, symbolising fortresses, towers, and immovable defence. Because of this, its appearance in a dream most often reflects situations of restriction, isolation, bitterness, and severe trial. (Also see Chess, Chessboard)

Church

For a Christian dreamer, a church represents a place of devotion, faith, learning, piety, labor, renunciation, caution against sin, repentance, and sorrow—possibly involving tears. It may also signify hardship, affliction, false accusation, heretical ideas, oppression, a trade association, a gathering hall, games of chance, intoxicants, public drinking, community events, marriages, or a spouse. In a vision, a church can stand for its congregation, religious district, clergy, priest, or minister. Witnessing a church converted into a synagogue, or a synagogue into a church, suggests suspicion, a dispute, or a plan to avoid lawful dues. Finding oneself in a synagogue may indicate a conversion to Judaism. If one's home transforms into a church, it implies conducting business from the residence or a conflict with an employer. A church in a dream can also symbolize a graveyard, admission of sins, a woman of ill repute, a venue for music, or a place of detention. For a woman dreaming she is at a wedding or funeral service in a church, it could foretell widowhood in waking life. (See also Circumcise, Temple)

Cincture

(Band, Belt, Clerical rope) A priest's cincture in a vision symbolizes a son. A damaged or broken cincture signifies the son's death. For a Christian, wearing this belt is a mark of piety, self-denial, renunciation, and compliance. For a Muslim, donning a cincture represents strong belief, conviction, resolve, adherence to divine ordinances, benevolence, or resisting falsehood. It may also indicate unlawful sexual relations, promiscuity, or reaching middle age. Any positive or negative condition of the cincture in the dream will mirror the dreamer's real circumstances. Cistern

A water cistern in a dream stands for a purse, a strongbox, a chest, a treasury, a spouse, a child, or the keeping of hidden matters. When it contains water, it indicates stagnation in any of those areas. Filled with oil instead, it foretells abundance and success. The cistern belonging to a Sufi lodge, mosque, or religious gathering represents its spiritual guide, imam, caretaker, or guardian of the place. Seeing the household cistern placed in an improper spot or inside a bathhouse points to the presence of a jinn that follows the resident or haunts the dwelling. A well serving as the house cistern suggests that the family belongs to the middle ranks, or that their water is brackish and unfit to drink. A cistern brimming with ghee, honey, or milk announces that the wife is expecting, or it signifies general prosperity for the household. Should the family appear thirsty while the cistern holds something other than water, it means they owe the obligatory zakat yet have neglected it, or that they possess beneficial knowledge but fail to act upon it, or that the region suffers drought requiring expenditure in the way of God. A cistern may also symbolize a shield, a pocket, personal honour, divine favours, attainment of high standing, or the removal of hardships – but only for those who actually use such vessels for storing or distributing water; for them it further denotes tranquility and safety from all harm. Citadel

(Fortress, Stronghold, Castle) A worthy person who dreams of being inside a splendid citadel will soon be raised to leadership, marry, father a child, acquire property, follow the way of the righteous, or turn to God in repentance. Simply finding oneself within a citadel or fortress foretells ascetic withdrawal from worldly affairs of this world together with increased devotion, firm belief, and avoidance of sin – the reward corresponding to the particular section of the structure in which he stands. Wandering alone in the barren land outside its walls warns that he will be overcome by an adversary. Constructing a citadel or fortress in a dream means safeguarding oneself from enemies, preserving purity, wealth, and person against calamity and disgrace. Demolishing one produces the opposite effect. Standing upon the ramparts signifies receiving timely aid from a brother, a son, or a superior that will preserve one’s life. Clothing

A person’s garments in a dream reflect his hidden thoughts and intentions, which will sooner or later become visible in his conduct and character. Pure thoughts appear as pure attire; corrupt thoughts manifest as corrupt attire. Wearing a slipper on the head and a turban on the foot foretells calamity and confusion. Each kind of garment, according to its name and nature, can symbolize either a man or a woman. A new garment in a dream is far better than an old, worn one. A man dressed in women’s clothing signifies that he remains unmarried; a woman in men’s clothing means she is still single. A tightly fastened shirt points to hardship, the return of an absent traveler, or marriage for the unmarried. Fine, dignified clothing denotes respect and high standing. A soldier’s uniform indicates war; a scholar’s robe means pursuit of knowledge; an ascetic’s coarse woollen cloak signifies renunciation of the world; a salesman’s suit means toil and seeking employment. White garments represent pride and honour. Silk signifies power and elevation in commerce or government. A deceased person seen in silken attire dwells in paradise. Gold-embroidered clothing announces triumph over enemies. Black clothing symbolizes authority, sovereignty, and mastery over others. Green clothing indicates martyrdom. Cotton clothing means following the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Woollen clothing brings clarity and insight, unless it is rough and unsuitable, in which case it means poverty and disgrace. Linen clothing signifies divine favour and blessing. Brocaded cloth heralds an important message, rise in rank, wealth, or the joy of children. A robe dragging on the ground warns of rebellion and disobedience; a coat of moderate length promises purity and moral excellence. Any garment reflects the qualities of the people who normally wear it, or captivity in war. Wearing a prayer cap or traditional head-covering means expiation of sins. A long flowing cloak or jubbah foretells long life. An open casual jacket signifies ease and financial gain. Special festive attire means prosperity stored for one’s offspring or fresh merchandise for one’s business. A military uniform predicts distress or scholarly controversy. Wearing one’s own cultural dress or that of another people means forging friendship with them and joining their celebrations gladly. (Also see Filth, Linen, Used clothing)

Dome

Seeing a dome in a dream is a symbol of a person who holds authority, power, and command, such as a ruler, king, sultan, governor, leader of an army, a high-ranking scholar, a judge, or the head of a household or community. The dome is interpreted this way because, just as a physical dome crowns and protects a building and is its most exalted and prominent part, so too does a person in command stand above others, bearing responsibility and providing shelter, justice, or leadership to those beneath him. If the dome is beautiful, majestic, tall, well-built, made of strong materials, or adorned with gold, green, or bright colors, it indicates a just, powerful, honorable, and respected leader, or it reflects the dreamer's own rising status, acceptance among people, and increase in authority and dignity. A green dome especially is very positive, often pointing to a religious authority, a wali of Allah, or a scholar whose knowledge benefits others, because green is the color of Paradise and the coverings of its domes.

Door

A door in a dream represents the guardian of the household. An open door indicates a source of provision. The house door also symbolizes the wife. If its appearance differs from reality, it denotes changes in one's life. If broken or burned, it foretells hardship for the guardian. Seeing a small door within the main entrance signifies intruding upon others' private chambers, a secret affair of one's wife, or exposed betrayal at home. Lions leaping at the door mean insolent men will pursue the wife. Seeking an unfindable door indicates indecision. Entering through the main door signifies victory over opponents. A door opening directly to the street means earnings benefit strangers more than the household. A disappearing door means the head of the household dies. Passing through a small door into open space signals relief from troubles. Exiting through the main door into a verdant garden symbolizes entering the afterlife. Two knockers or ringlets on the door denote debt to two demanding creditors. Fire consuming the door means the wife's death or failure to manage the household. City gates represent a just ruler. Doorstep

Taking away the lintels indicates divorcing one’s spouse. If the lintels vanish entirely, it points to death; if still visible, it suggests an illness followed by recovery. Drapes

Curtains in a dream stand for shielding one's intimate affairs. They also portray a loyal confidant, faithful companion, or a wife who veils her spouse's flaws, safeguards his trade, and keeps his gaze from straying. For a learned man they mirror his uprightness, virtuous spouse, and progeny. Nameless drapes betoken care or anguish. When they hang across the front entrance, hardship arrives from the outside world. Aged curtains indicate passing woes, while torn ones promise mirth and delight: vertical rips bring swift joy, horizontal gashes slander the household. Black folds signal anxiety tied to wealth, offspring, or officials; white or green portend favourable turns. Drapes adorning a mosque door reflect spiritual setbacks. Curtains out of place warn of adversity; those shading familiar windows carry no meaning, yet over strange surroundings they speak of dread that ends in relief. Gold-trimmed hangings hint at illusion or dispelled sorrow. An unmarried viewer who sees such veils will wed, guard chastity, or find a venture shielding him from want. A fugitive or frightened soul wrapped in drapes secures refuge from dread. Slipping through a tear while clinging to a curtain denotes a protracted, exhausting, far-flung journey. The larger the fabric, the heavier the trial.

Drum

Observing a drum in a dream represents receiving or spreading false information. Dancing to a drum's rhythm within a house warns of a misfortune befalling that household. Should one see himself transformed into a drum, it signifies experiencing confusing and unclear dreams. A tambourine with one skin symbolizes a woman possessing many faults. Drums associated with women denote reckless trade, secretive commerce, selling trinkets, ugliness, or a miserly woman with numerous adversaries. Hearing drums in a procession signifies deceptive news. The sound of an auctioneer's drum, a town crier's beat, or a herald's signal in a dream can portend a death. Some interpreters say the drumbeat of a marching column denotes a person who remains thankful to his Lord in all conditions. Hearing the drums of pilgrims signifies encountering a wise spiritual advisor. (See also the entries for Drummer and Tambourine.)

Dwellings

(Cage, Garment, House, Fortune, Robe) In a dream, one's dwelling symbolizes his place in the world or his worldly life. The state of the dwelling reflects the condition of the dreamer's deeds in wakefulness. Finding oneself in a newly constructed house, freshly painted and fully furnished, signifies prosperity. For a poor person, it means meeting financial obligations with ease; for one under strain, it heralds relief. For an artisan, it denotes mastery of his craft or attaining authority commensurate with the dwelling's beauty, size, and detail. For a sinner, it signifies repentance. The spaciousness or confinement of the dwelling mirrors one's financial state, knowledge, social interactions, hospitality, and generosity. A renovated dwelling suggests the revival or improvement of one's business. Fresh paint indicates the fulfillment of religious duties. Tiled or marble floors symbolize pleasures or one's wife. Dwellings made of solid iron denote long life and power. Entering an unknown house and finding deceased souls residing there means one has crossed into the realm of the hereafter. Dwellings built of mud or plaster reflect adverse circumstances. Entering and then leaving such a dwelling foretells a severe illness from which one will nearly die before recovering. Leaving in anger warns of imprisonment. Seeing someone enter one's home signifies an intrusion into private life or a brazen person becoming a close friend who then betrays trust and commits adultery with one's wife. Seeing one's dwelling collapse or cave in suggests receiving an inheritance from a deceased relative. Building a dwelling for oneself or others can mean the death of a relative or child, or the divorce of one's wife. Dwellings also represent a temporary station in life. If the construction material is unsuitable, it points to unlawful earnings. The dwelling further symbolizes one's physical body, carnal self, and worldly substance. Demolishing a new home in a dream represents evil and severe trials. (Refer also to the entries for Cage, Glass house, and House.)

Dye

Applying henna or any colouring substance to the hair or hands in a dream signifies a herbalist’s trade, festive occasions, joyful announcements, gentle affection, or deep mercy. Dyeing one’s hair also indicates concealing or safeguarding one’s private matters and those of others. To colour the grey strands of one’s beard denotes showing off, embellishing one’s goods or actions to appear more impressive than they truly are. Dyeing hair can likewise proclaim abundant blessings and favours, or, for someone in a position of power, imposing terms upon an adversary; otherwise it warns of hardship, irritation, debts, distress, or estrangement from loved ones. A woman dyeing her hair carries the same meaning as a man. Covering grey hair points to renewed strength, dignity, and courage. Applying henna only to the head (not the beard) means following the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings upon him. Dyeing both head and beard suggests hiding poverty while still demanding respect from others. When the hair readily accepts the dye, it foretells recovery of lost rank, though with diminished pride, or learning to adorn oneself with contentment. Using an unusual dye that works promises deliverance from calamity through wondrous means; if it fails, one’s hidden flaws will be exposed and he will lack defence against slander. Attempting to dye the hair with dry henna clay and succeeding reveals ignorance followed by sincere repentance and self-reform. A woman whose hands appear gilded has surrendered all her wealth to her husband and feels content doing so, yet she herself will rise in authority within the household. A man whose feet are dyed and patterned foretells domestic troubles. Dyed hands generally signify financial difficulty. Dipping a hand into a corpse signals witnessing a secret plot. Hands wrapped after dyeing indicate defeat in litigation or rivalry. Dyeing only a single finger with henna represents bunches of dates or grapes. In general, beautifying hands and hair with acceptable dye brings mutual joy to spouses provided boundaries are observed. Dyeing hands and feet together means renovating the home. A needy person dyeing himself conceals invalid ablution during prayer or Qur’an recitation, or shows neglect toward worship. For women, dyeing heralds happiness, fresh garments, gold, or impending marriage festivities. Excess dye spilling beyond the proper area warns of anxiety provoked by trade or companions. A man using something other than henna on hair or beard will suffer his greatest fear. Suppressing emotions through dye while ill promises swift recovery. Dyeing hair black to conceal unfavourable circumstances, nullify good deeds, or mask evil intent follows the custom of Pharaoh, who blackened his hair to disguise his true nature and ignorance.

Earrings

For a woman, pearl earrings or a necklace in a dream denote a present from her husband; silver ones indicate bodily weakness, while beads foretell disappointment by companions. Seeing one’s spouse adorned with earrings promises profitable enterprise. A man who finds himself wearing handsome pearl-set earrings will enjoy affluence, ease, and luxury, or may commit the Holy Qur’an to memory. Should a woman don silver earrings she will bear a dutiful son; pearls in the same setting mean the child will charm others with song. An unmarried girl wearing earrings forecasts marriage. A child thus adorned appears beautiful, yet the image is blameworthy for an adult male, hinting at vile and shameful conduct. Earrings also confer elevating knowledge that raises status, awaken musical talent, or suggest a pleasant outing. (Also see Gold, Ornaments)

In many cases, feathers signify the household of a righteous and devout person, reflecting piety and protection. Seeing wings in a dream generally relates to movement, power, and support. Flying with another person’s wings means receiving assistance, backing, or support from someone else, which is why it is said that a person “flies with another’s wings” when aided by others. Having wings but not using them to fly represents the acquisition of worldly possessions or wealth without undertaking major change. A broken wing in a dream signifies severe illness that may afflict one’s son. Experiencing intense pain from having one’s wings torn away suggests the loss or death of a child. Seeing a fireplace or an iron cast stove in a dream symbolizes a woman of strength and status, often one who comes from a powerful and influential family. If the fireplace is made of yellow copper or brass, it indicates a woman from a wealthy, worldly, and affluent household. A wooden fireplace represents hypocrisy or outward display without inner sincerity within such a family. If the fireplace is made of plaster, it signifies association with tyrannical or Pharaonic customs, arrogance, or false forms of devotion. When the fireplace is built of argillite or sun-dried bricks, it points to the presence of a god-fearing, righteous, and pious person within that household. A fireplace in a dream may also symbolize authority, the state, government, unemployment, or fleeing from an enemy, depending on the surrounding circumstances. If the fireplace or stove is lit but no food is being cooked and no water is boiling, it suggests anger and agitation on the part of the head of the household, a servant, or caretaker, often due to slander or backbiting. If the cooking pot in the dream represents the wife, then the fireplace represents her husband, who bears the burdens, hardships, and struggles of life. Conversely, if the fireplace represents the wife, then the cooking pot symbolizes the husband, who is constantly exposed to pressure and trials. An unlit fireplace indicates worry, distress, and difficulty, while a burning fireplace signifies fulfillment of needs, productive effort, and earning a livelihood through toil and perseverance. The fireplace may also represent one’s spouse, tools and means of work, vehicle, social status, seat of authority, a place of gathering, illumination, or support. It can symbolize parents, a pregnant woman, childbirth, one’s shop, a helper, or even a position of rank. It may also point to the winter season or the month of January. A fireplace may also symbolize the stomach, while firewood represents a heavy late-night meal that may cause indigestion or confused and disturbing dreams.(Also see Brazier, Firewood)

Firewood

Firewood in a dream commonly symbolizes slander, gossip, and backbiting. Placing two or three logs into a fire indicates the beginning of an argument or a harsh exchange of words that may escalate beyond control. If a religious or devout person sees timber in a dream, it warns of committing a grave sin—such as theft, murder, or adultery—followed by exposure and accountability before justice. Kindling a fire signifies reporting someone to authorities or instigating a matter that brings scrutiny. Carrying firewood represents engaging in harsh speech, reproach, defamation, or verbal abuse. Seeing timber stored inside one’s house may denote profits, the fulfillment of needs, inheritance, or charitable endowments. If the timber still requires cutting, it signifies earnings obtained through great effort, or income that brings trouble or wrongdoing along with it. If the wood is already cut and prepared for the fireplace, it indicates favor from a person in authority or success in business and livelihood. Firewood can also symbolize adversity, miserliness, or hardship. A bundle of firewood represents mixed or uncertain profits. If an unemployed person sees himself carrying such a bundle, it foretells working for a generous and benevolent employer. Gathering firewood signifies bringing medicine or treatment for a sick person. Identifying firewood by its original tree or recognizing its fruit points to money earned from a doubtful or questionable source. Offering timber to be burned in a religious ceremony signifies closeness to God, presenting a gift to a teacher, delivering an offender to justice, or taking a sick person to a physician. A crowded masjid indicates a gnostic, wise preacher who unites hearts, teaches religious precepts, and explains divine wisdom. A demolished masjid foretells the death of a devout scholar or believer in that area. A caving roof warns of committing a grave sin. A stranger praying in it suggests the imam will die from a severe illness. Entering with others who dig a small hole inside means impending marriage. A plain ring or band without a stone signifies engaging in a difficult undertaking with no reward. Rings made of ivory or animal horn bring glad tidings for a woman. Seeing a ruler sealing documents with his ring indicates receiving an important political post. If one accustomed to wearing a silver ring gives it away as a gift, it means he will preside over an honorable position. Seeing a dining table spread with ready food signifies divine favor, answering a supper or midday meal call, easy finances, elevated rank, and defeating one’s foe—here, the foe is hunger itself. The dishes laid out embody generous provision. Removing the dishes signals the end of ease and grace.
