In such dreams, an unfamiliar woman is less harmful than a known one. Adultery may also symbolize theft. If an adulterous woman invites the dreamer to fornicate, it suggests being tempted toward unlawful earnings. Committing adultery with a young, attractive woman means placing one’s wealth in a securely protected place or a concealed chest. If a powerful person commits adultery and then faces divine punishment in the dream, it implies an expansion of his authority. If he is fit for leadership, such a vision means he will be granted it. Sleeping with the wife of a close friend indicates taking some of that friend’s money. Reading the divine ruling regarding punishment for adulterers signals that the dreamer is himself guilty of the act. If one deals with an adulteress or a woman known for adultery, she represents the world and those who pursue its temptations. If a man sees a known couple sitting together intimately, it indicates that he desires some worldly benefit from the man. Air

Standing in the air in a dream signifies temporary honor, recognition, or notice from a governor or authority, though it will not last long. If a person is arrogant, self-important, filled with excessive expectations, or overly proud, then floating in the air reflects nothing more than confused or disturbed dreams. Walking in the air without rising or descending represents dignity, lawful earnings, and respect; if the dreamer is unfit for such elevation, it instead indicates travel. Hanging between heaven and earth symbolizes anxiety, hesitation, or uncertainty about one’s decisions. Falling in the air denotes despair, loss of rank, or decline in real life, though falling may also signal relief from hardship, fulfillment of needs, or release from burden. Clear, fresh, pleasant air indicates a favorable time for travel, whether for business or leisure. Air also symbolizes desire and passion; resisting one’s impulses in a dream represents entry into paradise, while following them indicates neglect of religious duties. Standing in the air and speaking loudly foretells blessings, favors, wealth, honor, and reputation. Sitting in the air reflects arrogance or self-deception about religious opinions. Building a structure in the air—such as a house, mat, or tent—signifies the death of a sick person, for what is built becomes the symbolic coffin. If a ruler sees this, it may predict his dismissal from office or his own death. Seeing such a vision after marriage or intimacy suggests mistrust, failure, or loss. It can also signify engaging in improper acts or lacking grounding in the Holy Book and prophetic traditions, since what is constructed has no foundation. Flying through the air signifies travel, while flying with wings is more favorable and powerful, the wings representing wealth or authority. Swimming in the air indicates benefits, trade journeys, or useful endeavors. If the air appears opaque so that the skies cannot be seen, it points to difficulties with one’s superior; if the dreamer has no superior, it may indicate loss of eyesight. If a scholar sees Ali, it represents an increase in knowledge, asceticism, dignity, and inner strength. Seeing him may also indicate being seized by an enemy, migrating from one land to another, and often dying as a martyr. His presence in a dream can signify blessed offspring, defeating adversaries, leadership among believers, hardships during travel, spoils, the appearance of blessings or miracles, attaining exceptional knowledge, following the example of the Prophet, peace be upon him, or successfully carrying out one’s commands. Seeing Ali as an elderly man indicates forming a relationship with the rulers of the land and benefiting from it. Seeing his body covered with wounds means becoming the target of people’s slander and defamation.

Allah

Category: Other

God Almighty—the Lord, Creator, Sustainer of all worlds. Nothing resembles Him, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing. Seeing God in a dream is interpreted in accordance with the dreamer’s state. If He is witnessed in His majesty without form, description, likeness, or human attributes, it signifies glad tidings in this life and the next, blessings that may extend even to one’s descendants. If He appears in any other manner, particularly without addressing the dreamer, it indicates confusion or an unsettled spiritual state. If a sick person sees God, it signifies that his death is approaching and that he will meet his Lord. For a misguided soul, seeing God means guidance; for one who is oppressed, it denotes victory and the arrival of justice. Hearing God’s words without seeing Him reflects the dreamer’s inner imagination, though it may comfort the heart and inspire determination. Hearing divine speech without a vision of Him also signifies elevation in rank. Receiving revelation from behind a veil represents confusion and innovation, especially if a messenger describes the speaker as God—for such a depiction is a nightmare, since the Almighty cannot be portrayed through created forms. Seeing an image of God indicates falsehood and attributing to Him what does not befit His glory. If God speaks to a person directly and the dreamer is able to focus on Him, it signifies being enveloped in mercy and blessings. Seeing God in a dream also suggests that one will behold His Divine Countenance in the Hereafter. Witnessing God above the Throne means elevation in knowledge, rank, and sustenance. Running to hide from God signifies abandoning obedience and slipping into heedlessness. A veil between the servant and his Lord indicates major sins and reprehensible deeds. If God’s displeasure is witnessed—such as being unable to bear His light or trembling with fear before hastening to repent—it means the dreamer is deeply engaged in sinful behavior, following desires, introducing false religious notions, and misleading others. Hearing God speak in a dream represents admonition and a warning to avoid sin, and may also reflect increased devotion in reciting the Qur’an. If God speaks with words the dreamer cannot understand, and then blesses or touches him, it means nearness to God and exaltation of rank. If God appears in the likeness of one’s father, brother, or relative while showing kindness, it signifies a forthcoming calamity or serious illness. If a righteous person sees himself standing humbly before God, filled with awe, it means mercy will surround him and strengthen his spiritual growth; the same applies to seeing oneself prostrating before Him. If God speaks from behind a veil, it may symbolize a devoted worshipper; but if the divine speech occurs without a veil, it warns of falling into sin. If God names someone using his birth name and then adds an honorific title, it signifies elevation in status. Seeing God angry means one’s parents are displeased—symbolized also by falling from a high place. If a devout believer sees God kissing him, it indicates increased devotion and reward. Fearing God in a dream reflects nobility, serenity, wealth of the soul, and detachment from worldly cravings. (Also see Carriers of the Divine Throne; Divine Throne; Educator; God's will; King.)

Angry angels or those disciplining the dreamer warn of returning to wrongdoing, incurring parental anger, rejecting divine obligations, or denying faith altogether. Such angels may embody officials or representatives of rulers. A dying person informed no angels arrived testifies to his virtuous nature and devotion, or settlement of obligations, or healing from sickness. Angels can likewise denote learned scholars, mystics, or interpreters proficient in various languages. Garments can represent a man’s character or authority, while a scholar’s or merchant’s attire points to the trade that provides his livelihood and shields him from hardship. Soiled clothing reflects one’s outward condition and inner state. Wearing fine apparel in the heat of summer suggests pretension, pride, or severe emotional strain, for summer heat symbolizes distress. If a woman dons men’s clothing, it indicates piety and success in worldly and spiritual matters. Should a man wear women’s garments, it signifies fear, sorrow, humiliation, and trials, which will eventually be lifted from him.

Appearance

Category: Mood

Seeing something previously hidden or withheld appear before one in a dream suggests relief after hardship, redress after injustice, renewed hope such as conceiving after despair, or similar forms of ease. A secret disclosed at the proper moment points to fulfilled promises, needs being met, debts settled, the return of an absent traveller, the release of a captive, or for a woman, the possibility of pregnancy. Should something manifest at an unsuitable time, it indicates financial burdens or impending debts.

Appetite

Category: Human Body

In dreams, eating to the point of fullness signals agitation or inability to remain calm. If one becomes completely satiated and cannot take another bite, it may foretell a shift in circumstances, a decline in status, loss of livelihood, or even death. However, if one notices remaining room for more food, that unused space reflects the extent of worldly provision allotted to him. Eating until full can also symbolize earning sustenance or regaining surplus wealth. Some interpreters hold that hunger in a dream is more favorable than feeling full, just as drinking plenty of water is considered better than intense thirst.

Apple

Category: Food

Apples seen in a dream symbolize lovely offspring. An apple further signifies a person's resolve and sincere intention. For a ruler, apples denote his realm. To a trader, they stand for his goods, and to a cultivator, his harvest. Consuming apples in a dream indicates firmness of purpose. Partaking of a pleasant apple points to legitimate income, whereas a tart apple suggests gains that are forbidden. Bitter apples represent discord and harm, and their tree signifies laziness. Should a ruler hurl an apple toward a subordinate in a dream, it foretells favorable tidings or the realization of ambitions. Sowing an apple tree means taking in or nurturing an orphan child. An apple tree embodies a righteous individual and a faithful servant who aids and supports his society. Consuming an apple also implies gaining hidden rewards that others do not perceive. Picking an apple signifies wealth obtained via an honorable figure. Tallying apples means reckoning one's finances. Inhaling the scent of an apple within a place of worship denotes entering matrimony. If a lady dreams of inhaling an apple's fragrance at a gathering, it signals improper behavior and the spread of wrongdoing. For her to eat an apple in a familiar location means bearing a fine-looking boy. Taking a bite from an apple reflects fulfilling carnal urges or succumbing to passionate fixation. Apricot

(Fruit) Viewing an apricot during its proper season in a dream indicates wealth. An apricot appearing outside its season signifies sickness. An apricot tree laden with fruit represents a prosperous individual. Yet, some say an apricot tree symbolizes a person afflicted with a grave ailment who offers little benefit to others. Alternatively, it is viewed as a person with a bright countenance, bold in self-defense, yet miserly toward his household. An unripe, green apricot points to modest earnings. When fully mature and golden, it promises larger gains. Consuming a mature apricot denotes open-handedness and piety, or recovery from sickness. Snapping a branch from an apricot tree foretells a quarrel with relatives or companions. Broadly, breaking any tree branch may mean demanding another's funds, withholding due payment, neglecting required worship, ignoring mandatory fasting, or wrongly handling another's belongings. Visiting an apricot orchard signifies reliability and fulfillment of duties. An apricot tree is also said to embody a dissembler, since yellow denotes illness, and hypocrisy resembles a malady. Furthermore, it may represent an affluent lady. Gathering apricots from a tree could mean wedding such a woman. Reaping produce from any fruit tree in its time brings enjoyment and labor, save for the mulberry, which implies struggle, difficulty, or lost effort. Picking apricots from an apple tree suggests enforcing unfair demands on people. Generally, fruits of yellow hue signal poor health. A bitter-tasting fruit indicates anxiety and grief. Taking part in these rites may also reflect strengthened faith, certainty, and adherence to prophetic tradition. Arabic months

Category: Months

The twelve lunar months—Muharram, Safar, Rabi‘ al-Awwal, Rabi‘ al-Thani, Jumada al-Ula, Jumada al-Thaniyah, Rajab, Sha‘ban, Ramadan, Shawwal, Dhu-l-Qi‘dah, and Dhu-l-Hijjah—carry distinct dream implications. A dream seen in Muharram is regarded as especially reliable and closest to an unveiled vision, promising success, ease after strain, release from confinement, or recovery from illness. One who has left his homeland may return, echoing the deliverance granted to the Prophet Jonah—peace be upon him—after emerging from the whale. The dreamer might encounter a profound spiritual test, witness the passing of a revered scholar, or see the rise of a deeply insightful guide. A sinner who dreams in this month is shown repentance, for God accepted Adam’s turning back during this period. One who yearns for honour will rise in rank, as God elevated Idris—peace be upon him—then. A traveller who dreams in Muharram is promised safe return, for it was the month in which Noah—peace be upon him—was delivered and his ark came to rest on Mount Judi. Whoever longs for a child may be granted a righteous son, as Abraham and Jesus—peace be upon them—were born in this month. A person in tight livelihood may find relief or escape from danger, recalling the rescue of Abraham—peace be upon him—from Nimrod’s fire, or his turning away from misguided ways like the repentance of Prophet David—peace be upon him. One deprived of rank may regain leadership, as Solomon—peace be upon him—was restored to his authority. The bedridden may recover, resembling Job’s healing, or he may be entrusted with an important mission, reflecting Moses—peace be upon him—receiving divine speech in this month. Dreams occurring in Safar carry a contrasting rule: if the dream leads the seer to dread its message, the true outcome may unfold opposite to his fear. A sick person may regain strength, the needy may find relief, and distress will not harm the dreamer. Dreams in Rabi‘ al-Awwal often bode well for merchants, suggesting expanding trade, abundant provision, and possible childbirth. Worries clear, injustice is overturned, victory appears, good news arrives, and one may be granted authority or play a role in calling others toward righteousness, reflecting the birth of the Prophet Muhammad—peace and blessings be upon him—during this month. A vision seen in Rabi‘ al-Thani promises good if it heralds joy, but the dreamer may have to wait patiently. If the dream warns of harm, its consequences may come quickly. This month may also signify triumph over enemies or conceiving a blessed son destined for spiritual insight or courage, for Imam ‘Ali—may God ennoble his face—was born then. Dreams of Jumada al-Ula advise caution in trade and dealings. They may foreshadow the loss of a daughter or wife, recalling the passing of Fatimah—may God be pleased with her—during this period. A dream in Jumada al-Thaniyah that carries good tidings will materialize, though slowly, and should not be resisted. Rajab, the month of the Prophet’s Ascension, brings meanings of honour, elevation, and distinction to whoever dreams within it. Sha‘ban signifies rank, generosity, and the rewarding of good deeds, for in this month noble actions are especially esteemed. Ramadan carries meanings of suspended hardship, protection from evil, generosity, and the emergence of blessings. Goodness becomes manifest and troubling dreams lose their force. Believers’ dreams and unbelievers’ dreams may be interpreted differently in this month. Seeing Ramadan itself symbolizes divine favour, profit, encouraging good and discouraging wrongdoing. Seekers of knowledge receive knowledge, since the Qur’an was revealed in this month. One afflicted with seizures may recover because devils and malignant spirits are restrained. A dream in Shawwal that suggests battle or confrontation foretells victory. Seeing this month also means leaving difficulty behind and finding joy, devotion, and stability, as the Ka‘bah was completed during Shawwal. Dreams in Dhu-l-Qi‘dah caution against travel; delaying a journey may be wiser. The dreamer should guard himself and avoid whatever brings stress. A dream in Dhu-l-Hijjah, however, encourages travel or profitable ventures, as the month is blessed with pilgrimage rites and sacrificial worship. Seeing oneself performing sacrifice or festival prayers during this month points to paying debts, fulfilling vows, repentance, and guidance. It may also indicate the death of notable scholars, the removal of rulers, political upheaval, or the outbreak of sudden conflict.

Visioning Mount Arafat or its plain may likewise indicate the approach of pilgrimage time, undertaking hajj, performing umrah in Mecca (See Umrah), attending Friday communal prayer, the day of Jumu'ah, visiting a bustling market, or pursuing rewarding trade. Being present at Arafat in a dream further denotes elevation in rank, transformation of circumstances, a shift from prosperity to hardship or from difficulty to ease, or possibly the passing of a dear one such as a spouse, or moving to a sacred land or securing refuge. Standing at Arafat may also imply defeat in a confrontation, yet its outcome will ultimately grant dignity and high standing, or victory over foes. For one burdened with sin, praying and seeking forgiveness at Mount Arafat or beside the Mount of Mercy signifies acceptance of repentance, revelation of a hidden matter, or an imminent meeting of separated loved ones. Appearing at Arafat under cover of night foretells achievement of aims and fulfillment of aspirations. However, standing there after dawn suggests that one's inquiry will remain unanswered. Receiving food or fruit from him indicates a place among the people of Paradise. A disbeliever who sees him, however, may face ordeals and divine punishment. Considering Gabriel and Michael equal in rank implies aligning with the beliefs of the Jews and may lead the dreamer into actions contrary to divine guidance, bringing God’s anger. If Gabriel greets someone, it foretells becoming a learned and distinguished scholar. He may also represent a king’s envoy, a trusted assistant, a bearer of joyful announcements, or one who proclaims the birth of a son.
