In a dream, a turtle denotes a woman fond of adornment who makes herself conspicuous to attract men. A turtle also symbolizes a man of wisdom or a chief judge, as it is considered the most knowing and reverent among sea creatures. Thus, a turtle may represent a devout worshipper who recites the scriptures of the prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) or other sacred texts. Observing a pet turtle in a home or town signifies that the learned individuals there are held in esteem. Seeing a turtle dwelling in refuse signifies a wise person living among ignorant folk who heed little from him. Consuming turtle meat in a vision signifies gain, advantage, or wealth. Should one see a turtle within his dwelling or possess one, it indicates he will benefit from association with a scholar versed in ancient manuscripts or the interpretation of old scrolls. A turtle lying on its back suggests an unrecognized sage resides in that locale. A well-nourished turtle resting upon embroidered fabric denotes the townspeople honor their scholars. However, a turtle can also symbolize deceit, cunning, espionage, concealment, wickedness, and the procurement of arms.
