Islamic Interpretation
Seeing oneself memorizing a poem or a verse in a dream signifies engaging in a line of work or trade through which one will gain broad knowledge, experience, and possibly profit or success in whatever occupation he pursues. Reciting poems in a court of justice for payment indicates giving false testimony and bending the truth for personal gain. Reciting poetry before a gathering suggests conveying words of apparent wisdom while harboring hypocrisy or mixed intentions. Listening to poetry in a dream points to associating with people who neglect truth and occupy themselves with vain or misleading speech, for poetry in dreams often represents falsehood, exaggeration, or idle talk. Reciting, hearing, or memorizing poetic verses also serves as a warning to reflect carefully on their meaning, as the dream may be urging caution. If the poem contains wisdom or divine meaning, it signifies goodness, guidance, and benefit. Composing or memorizing poetry may also symbolize loss of rank, dismissal from employment, weakness in religious commitment, emotional distress, depression, trials, or being harmed by slander from an enemy, and it can also indicate cunning schemes or deceptive plans. Writing satirical or defamatory poetry means slandering others for amusement or profit, while composing poetry that praises others signifies poverty or loss of wealth. Singing one’s poem with melody in a dream represents mockery, suspicion toward others, uncertainty, or inability to complete one’s work or fulfill one’s intentions. (Also see Poet)
