Islamic Interpretation
Mirror. (Illusion, pride, self-regard, woman) In dreams, a mirror signifies illusion, arrogance, pride, or a woman. If someone looks into a mirror and sees his beard appearing black, it denotes honor, respect, and dignity. Seeing in the mirror the likeness of another person who resembles the dreamer means he will father a son who will resemble him and follow his profession. Looking into a mirror also indicates loss of rank or entering into marriage, and if the dreamer is already married, it signifies the return of his wife from a journey. Seeing the back of a mirror points to loss of crops or engaging in forbidden intimacy with one’s wife. It is also said that a mirror represents manhood, virtues, and social standing, all of which are proportionate to the size of the mirror seen in the dream. Looking into a silver mirror means loss of status, hardship, anxiety, and fear, while gazing into a golden mirror symbolizes strong faith, devotion, relief after poverty, redemption, and the restoration of position and honor. A broken mirror indicates the death of one’s wife, since spouses reflect one another. Seeing the reflection of a young man in a mirror signifies confronting an enemy or rival, whereas seeing an old man represents meeting a loyal friend. A clean and polished mirror denotes relief from worries and the lifting of distress, while a rusty or corroded mirror reflects a poor condition or a difficult trial. If the mirror is fake or distorted, it points to severe anguish or an impending calamity. Staring excessively at one’s own reflection suggests that the dreamer displeases God Almighty, disobeys His commands openly and secretly, and will therefore face financial loss or inner gloom. If a sick person looks into a mirror, it indicates his death. A mirror can also signify travel or pregnancy. When a woman looks into a mirror, it means she will give birth to a girl, and when a man looks into a mirror, it means he will beget a boy. Seeing the reflection of someone else in the mirror indicates delusion, madness, or loss of wealth. If a man sees a woman’s reflection in the mirror, it signifies either marriage or the birth of a daughter. For a prisoner, looking into a mirror means release from captivity. If one becomes a mirror in a dream, it means becoming an object of people’s anger, contempt, and rejection. (Also see Basin)
