Islamic Interpretation
In a dream, wearing a good quality garment signifies prosperity in both this world and the hereafter. A woollen garment represents renouncing worldly life and calling others to desire the hereafter. A green robe brings benefits and no harm; on a living person it denotes religious devotion, while on a deceased person it indicates a good state and acceptance by God, and may also mean receiving an inheritance. A white garment means glad tidings, though for a fabric merchant or tailor it signifies a lack of work. A black garment is a bad omen unless one is accustomed to wearing black, in which case it means honour, wealth, and a high position. A red garment signifies excess earnings still subject to alms, requiring immediate payment; it also can mean death, sickness, or increased difficulties for the poor, but is good only for an unmarried woman. Wearing red during festivals holds no meaning. A yellow garment or its derivatives suggests an ulcer or internal illness. Silken garments indicate religious loss and negligence. Blue means distress and difficulties. A patterned, mixed-colour garment means being reprimanded by a superior or represents a flower merchant. A double-sided coat signifies duplicity and affectation. A washed garment means poverty and debt. Brocade means attending a pilgrimage or, for a qualified person, controlling farmland interests or a good harvest. Brilliantly coloured garments on a man indicate pride and arrogance. A silken raiment on one portraying a jurist means seeking worldly titles and innovation. Announcing lost and found garments means attending pilgrimage or traveling to an Arab country. A woman in a thin garment shows integrity, while a thick one means labour and hardships. Putting on a new garment after ritual bath means prosperity or debt repayment; if new and torn beyond repair, it means infertility; if repairable, it suggests an evil spell. Two torn garments mean death; one torn garment signifies shattered religious life, pursuit by evil, poverty, or striving for basic needs. Being stripped of clothing means loss of status. Destroying garments brings glad tidings, unless one is incarcerated, poor, or in debt. A man wearing a woman's outfit, intending effeminacy, means facing calamity and a great burden; thinking he is a woman means greater humiliation. Receiving used garments in good condition as a gift means money; in bad condition, trouble. A dog in a woollen cloak represents a just ruler; a lion in cotton or linen represents a ruler who confiscates property. A linen cloak means a dignified life. Eating a clean garment means lawful earnings; eating a dirty one means unlawful money. Burning one's garment ends difficulties. Ironing creases before wearing means interest in beauty and ornaments.
