Islamic Interpretation
In a dream, a road symbolizes the divine law. Seeing numerous roads indicates straying from God’s path or engaging in religious innovation. Taking a side road or turning away at a junction means going astray. If a highway robber attacks someone, it signifies the loss of a friend. Seeing a ruler walking along a rough road indicates that he will establish justice and open the way to righteousness and prosperity. A straight road represents God’s path, true faith in divine revelation, adherence to the practice of the Messenger of God, peace be upon him, or following the guidance of a teacher or spiritual master. Walking on a straight path signifies repentance and receiving guidance. Seeing many roads also reflects hesitation, instability in faith, doubt, heedlessness, or even apostasy. A road may also symbolize a profession, eternity, the past, aging, continuity, or a good or bad example. A boat keeping to the proper sea route signifies salvation. A road can further represent a woman, one’s livelihood, truth, or death. For a merchant, walking on a road means discovering new ways to earn income.
