Pen (also pencil or tongue). In a dream, a pen signifies knowledge, learning, a child, a profession, or enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong. For a merchant or craftsman, seeing a pen indicates success in trade or leadership among people of the same profession. Writing with a pen or issuing an invoice in a dream means protection from poverty through one’s work. For a writer, carrying a pen, paper, or inkwell represents a steady income, safety from need, earning a living through writing, or working under someone in authority. A pen may also symbolize a manager, supervisor, guarantor, witness to an agreement, a marriage contract, or an intelligent son who will become a renowned writer. Possessing a pen or receiving one as a gift means acquiring knowledge, and writing with it points to receiving an appointment or holding authority. Seeing another pen beside the one in hand signifies a half-brother, or if one’s mother is pregnant, the birth of a son. A pen can also represent a guarantee or an oath, and holding it indicates making a vow. If the pen is broken or damaged, it reflects harm to one’s work, trade, or livelihood. Dipping a pen into an inkwell suggests committing a sin. A pen may further symbolize personal virtues, obedience to a court ruling, signing a legal order, or represent a scholar, judge, tongue, sword, male organ, railway, generosity, abundance, humanity, a trusted confidant, or triumph over an enemy. A pen in good condition shows that one’s oath or covenant is true, while a faulty pen points to a false oath or unjust agreement. Overall, a pen in a dream also denotes long life and prosperity.
