Islamic Interpretation
Seeing oneself as a hostage in a dream signifies an accumulation of sins that has turned the person into a pledge held for the settlement of debts. Holding someone as security for a promise or keeping him as a pawn until conditions are fulfilled indicates a tendency toward injustice. A hostage also symbolizes errors, wrongdoing, exposing people’s private affairs, revealing secrets, backbiting, or a debt that subjects a person to continual pressure and harassment. Being taken hostage further denotes hardships, ordeals, or falling in love, whereby the heart becomes captive to the beloved. (Also see Enemy, Enmity)
