Islamic Interpretation
In dreams, the world symbolizes a woman, just as a woman may represent the world. Seeing oneself leaving the world suggests the possibility of divorcing one’s wife. If the dreamer sees the world destroyed with only himself remaining, it indicates potential loss of eyesight. Seeing the entire world laid out before one to take whatever is desired foretells poverty or death soon after the vision. The world in a dream may also signify distractions, amusement, deception, arrogance, broken promises, dishonesty, theft, fraud, suffering, prostitution, trials, illness, fines, depression, restrictions, appointments, dismissals, or disappointment. It can likewise represent one’s spouse, child, material increase, commercial success, good harvest, awakening, victory, love, or a beloved with a double nature. Whether the world appears pleasant or unpleasant, it may carry any of these meanings. Seeing the world can also serve as divine instruction, showing the dreamer what must be understood in life. Walking away from the world indicates renunciation, while embracing it shows indulgence and fulfillment of desire. Chasing the world while it flees signifies eventual deception and temptation. The world may also symbolize the Holy Qur’an, the radiant full moon illuminating worldly existence. (Also see Travels)
