Water in a dream symbolizes life, prosperity, wealth, expansion of business, increase in income, and sometimes marriage. Seeing clear, pure, and abundant water in a dream indicates peace, social justice, reduced prices, and harmony among people. Chewing water in a dream signifies hardship, struggle, and difficulty in earning one’s livelihood. Drinking a glass of water in a dream represents protection from enemies and foretells a year of prosperity. Drinking more water than one normally would in waking life signifies long life. If a single glass of water does not quench one’s thirst in the dream, it indicates discord or tension between husband and wife. Immersing one’s hand in water signifies playing with wealth and causing confusion in one’s affairs. Fresh, drinkable water or a well seen in a dream may also become the cause of a trial, conflict, or calamity. Giving someone a glass of water in a dream is glad tidings of a child. Drinking spring water signifies conception or receiving benefits from one’s wife. In this sense, the glass symbolizes the woman, and the water represents the fetus. Drinking hot water in a dream signifies distress and adversity. If boiling water is used during the daytime, it represents punishment, affliction, or chastisement for sins; if used at night, it signifies fear of evil spirits. Being pushed into a pond or river of clear water indicates a pleasant surprise. Being submerged in water represents trials, confusion, distress, and hardship. Carrying a container of clear water signifies receiving an inheritance. Asking people for water means falsely claiming need or deceiving others. Stagnant water represents imprisonment, sorrow, or depression, though its meaning is weaker than that of running water. If a sick person bathes in murky water and emerges from it, he will recover; if afflicted, he will overcome adversity; if imprisoned, he will be freed. Pure, drinkable water signifies salvation. Saltwater represents distress. Murky water gushing froth from a well indicates a bad marriage. Walking on water signifies strong faith, certainty, and reliance upon Allah, especially if accompanied by words of wisdom. It may also indicate clarifying an unclear matter, embarking on a dangerous journey, or trusting Allah during risk. Returning from water to dry land signifies fulfillment of needs or desires. Falling into a deep sea or river without reaching the bottom signifies wealth and prosperity, for the world is likened to a vast ocean. Falling into a river and being overwhelmed by water signifies illness, while drowning signifies death. Falling into water may also signify happiness, joy, or blessings. Seeing one’s reflection in water and appearing beautiful indicates kindness toward family and neighbors. Reaching a pond of clear water signifies speaking good words. Pouring water into a bag signifies spending money to please a woman, while pouring water where it brings no benefit signifies wasting wealth. Floods signify distress, corruption, and suffering according to their severity. Rising water that floods homes and businesses signifies trials that will ultimately eliminate evil people. Water flowing over one’s roof signifies sudden distress or prolonged hardship caused by authority. Sweet, potable water signifies lawful earnings, purity of heart, knowledge, revival, recovery from illness, marriage, or spouse. Drinking sweet water from a lawful vessel signifies a valid marriage; from an unlawful vessel, an invalid one. Water also represents what the poor drink and what noble people share among themselves. Quenching thirst signifies comfort, relief, prosperity, and family reunion. Bathing in spring water signifies repayment of debts. If sweet water turns salty, it signifies apostasy or deviation from divine guidance. Carrying water signifies pregnancy or increased income. Abundance of water during drought, or drought during rain, signifies injustice, high prices, disputes, weakness, or financial loss. Clear water also signifies recovery from eye disease. A bursting pipe or tank signifies distress. Green water signifies prolonged illness or misery. Drinking black water signifies blindness. Sucking water signifies constricted circumstances. Being suddenly showered with hot water signifies fever, illness, or fright from unseen beings. Wet garments signify delay, disruption of travel, or failed plans. For the poor, carrying water signifies money; for the rich, marriage or childbirth. Carrying water in porous materials signifies pride in wealth or status. Pouring water into a container signifies marriage. Bathing in cold water signifies repentance, healing, release from prison, debt repayment, or relief from fear. Drawing water from a well signifies earning money through deceit. Irrigating land signifies earning money from a woman, and blossoming trees signify conception. Watering land also signifies marital relations. Pure water gushing from one’s mouth signifies knowledge and wisdom that benefit others. For a young merchant, it signifies truthfulness. Sweet water represents faith, while saltwater represents disbelief. Water also represents wealth. Water seeping from a wall signifies distress caused by a brother or in-law.
