Islamic Interpretation
To behold a deep, dry river valley in a dream suggests embarking on a wearying voyage, a lengthy expedition, or confronting an obstinate person. Such a vision also signifies pious acts or making sacrifices to seek the pleasure of the Almighty. A wadi can represent its inhabitants, a local tribe, or its cultivated lands. If the valley is seen flourishing with fruit-bearing trees, aromatic herbs, flowing streams, or if pleasing speech is heard, it denotes elevation in rank, association with influential figures, or receipt of an official post. For the devout, it means God will manifest wondrous signs and blessings through them. It may also symbolize rainfall that fills the ravine. Given its steep, confining walls, a wadi can represent incarceration. To see oneself floating above a wadi to a desired height means serving a person of power. It may also embody a soldier, a marauder, a highwayman, or a lion. A wadi blocking one's path warns of robbery, torrential rains, or a dangerous encounter. For a non-traveler, it signifies trouble, hardship, injury, imprisonment, dread, or sickness. Crossing a wadi in winter signifies evading peril. Digging a wadi foretells the loss of a relative. Falling into a deep valley without injury means receiving a boon from an authority figure. Dwelling in a barren valley signifies performing the Hajj pilgrimage. Wandering in a wadi signifies composing poetry. (Also see Flying)
