Islamic Interpretation

Dreaming of teeth symbolizes an individual’s essence, years, lineage, sons, daughters, kin, wealth, attendants, household creatures, workers, arms, existence, demise, harmony, parting, deposits, or reserves. Within the vision, the upper teeth of a man or woman signify the male kin from the father’s lineage, while the lower jaw’s teeth denote female relatives from the mother’s side. Relatives are closer the nearer the teeth are to the front. Separated into two parts, the upper right front tooth stands for the father; the upper left front tooth signifies a paternal uncle, or may represent sisters, sons, or an intimate companion. The upper pointed teeth, or canines, denote a cousin or two friends bound like cousins. The premolars symbolize maternal uncles and their offspring, and the molars represent grandparents and grandchildren. The lower right front tooth is the mother; the lower left front tooth is an aunt from the father’s side, or they may indicate two sisters, two daughters, or two devoted friends sharing deep affection and care. The lower canines signify a female cousin from either parental line. The lower pointed tooth, or eye-tooth, denotes the master of the household or the property owner. The upper and lower molars also signify the most distant family members, including a grandmother and her granddaughters. A tooth shifting in its socket foretells an ailment. Its dropping or loss predicts the death of the person it represents, or a permanent separation where they are seen no more. Should one retrieve and keep a lost tooth instead of interring it, it indicates someone will arrive and become as dear as that relation. Burying it, however, means the relative’s passing. (2) In dreams, the parts of the body also reflect family members, and their condition may manifest among kin. Likewise, anything affecting the teeth in a vision can be read as impacting those relatives. If front teeth appear lovely and shining, they forecast authority, distinction, and success for the father or an uncle. Additional front teeth growing in the mouth herald an expansion of the family through a newborn brother or son. Teeth seeming slightly decayed suggest an ordeal, or a shameful act by the family that brings dishonor. Attempting to extract one’s own teeth signifies spending wealth reluctantly, paying a penalty, breaking from parents and severing blood bonds, or proving disloyal to relatives. Teeth turning yellow or black portends a disgraceful deed that will taint the family’s name. Yellow teeth may also mean expending resources to recover one’s standing, or being regarded as learned. A foul oral odor implies negative consequences arising from praises the family receives. Decaying teeth indicate weakness within the family unit. Being bitten by people in a dream suggests one might have feigned something publicly but managed to hold back. (31If the mouth symbolizes the household, then teeth on the right side are the boys, and on the left are the girls. Alternatively, right-side teeth may signify the elder generation, left-side the younger. Front teeth represent the young men of the family; the pointed canines symbolize the young women. Molars denote the aged. Losing a molar foretells the death of an elderly household member. (4lHuman teeth also denote one’s enterprise and conduct of life. Here, molars reflect private affairs, the eye-tooth semi-public matters, and the front incisors what is done openly—one’s public persona, speech, and actions. Broken teeth suggest slowly settling debts. Long teeth signify hostility or conflict among household members. Seeing teeth become crooked and decayed, then deciding extraction is best, means escaping grave troubles and perils. Teeth turning to gold brings gains for an instructor or orator; for others, golden teeth signify fire, sickness, a fungal ailment, or a malady from excess bile. Teeth becoming glass or wood predicts death. Silver teeth indicate injury or financial loss. Front teeth falling out and being replaced by new ones signifies profound life changes. Forcibly pressing the tongue against the teeth means speaking ill of one’s own family or indicates domestic strife. Damage or loss of the crown or enamel of an eye-tooth foretells a son’s death. (')Teeth symbolize one’s extended family, close kin, or distant cousins. Molars are the males; front teeth are the females. Needlessly pulling teeth means incurring a penalty, losing principal funds, or cutting ties with family. Discovering one or two cavities suggests one may father one or two sons. A bad mouth odor signifies disparaging another’s thoughts or a familial quarrel. Fallen teeth may indicate spouses sleeping apart, poverty, dying abroad, or an extended lifespan. Extracting and burying one’s teeth means the entire clan or family will perish before the dreamer. Pulling teeth also reveals one’s secrets. Losing a tooth can imply retribution for a misdeed. Upper and lower jaw teeth intermixing means women dominate the men in the family. Flossing teeth indicates the family scattering or loss of possessions and money. If meat remains lodged between teeth after flossing, it means the dreamer backbites his relatives. (8) Teeth may also represent a strand of pearls, a millstone, or a military array—the right flank, left flank, and forward assault line—or they can mean cutting blood relations. Front teeth may symbolize a person’s heart. Teeth in a pocket or palm represent brothers. If a confined relative is seen and one’s teeth are extracted, it means that relative’s release from detention. Extracting one’s own teeth could also mean a traveler’s homecoming. Tartar on teeth reveals family frailties. Black or fractured teeth denote grief caused by kin. Wisdom teeth symbolize one’s adherents; front and canine teeth represent wealth, ornamentation, pride, or offspring. Their color changing to yellow or black reflects life changes. Teeth turning to iron denotes fortitude. Losing teeth may also mean losing employment. Extracting teeth so none can see them implies barrenness, business failure, loss of savings, poor family relations, an evil act toward kin, or attempting to fund an enterprise with borrowed money leading to ruin. Pulling out a troublesome tooth from waking life in a dream means trying to pacify a difficult person whose harmfulness will end. Replacing a tooth with a bridge means recouping losses or balancing one’s affairs. An extra tooth in a dream predicts losing one in reality. (Refer also to: Body; Suffering; Teeth)
