Islamic Interpretation
Experiencing suffocation in a dream signifies bearing a burden or responsibility beyond one’s capacity, being coerced into accepting a heavy charge, or misusing a trust or position of authority. If the suffocation in the dream is linked to illness, it represents punishment for a sin or an act of injustice. When the distress intensifies to the point of near strangulation or death, it indicates being obliged to return all benefits gained from that trust. Dying from suffocation in the dream means losing one’s struggle with the rightful owner and falling into poverty. If one dies and then returns to life, it signifies that after a difficult trial, God Almighty will restore him to his former position. It may also indicate the return of power and holding one’s adversaries accountable. (Also see Strangulation)
