Islamic Interpretation
In a dream, a stream represents the course of one’s livelihood, including one’s income, trade, shop, profession, travels, and means of sustenance. It symbolizes the flow of life’s provisions and the continuity of one’s affairs. A stream may also represent festering wounds, a waterskin, irrigation channels, a resting place along a road, or the throat, which serves as the body’s channel of nourishment. If the stream is public property, it represents life in general and the welfare of the people. If it is privately owned, it signifies the life, condition, or destiny of the person who dug or established it. A stream in a dream can also symbolize comfort, ease, and a good life enjoyed by its owner. When a stream overflows its banks in a dream, it signifies sorrow, crying, grief, or emotional distress. If one sees a stream flowing peacefully through people’s homes, especially if its water is clear and sweet, it represents happiness, harmony, and a pleasant life. If a person sees himself owning a stream, spring, or watercourse and dedicating it as a charitable endowment, it means he will attain leadership, authority, or serve his community with honor and satisfaction. Cleaning a rivulet only to find it polluted again or filled with filth signifies diarrhea or bodily illness. Seeing water flowing beneath one’s feet represents dropsy or swelling caused by illness. If a stream flows through a town and people draw from it, drink its water, and praise God, it means the removal of calamity and the arrival of peace, safety, and tranquillity. If the people were previously suffering hardship or drought, it signifies prosperity, rainfall, abundance of food, money, and flourishing trade. If the water of the stream is murky, salty, foul-smelling, or flowing outside its proper channel, it signifies an approaching calamity, widespread suffering, illness such as cold in winter or fever in summer, bad news about travelers, or wealth acquired from unlawful or tainted sources. If a stream flows exclusively toward one’s house, such hardship will affect the dreamer personally. However, if a stream flows toward one’s home or garden with clean water, it signifies marriage or the conception of a child. A stream flowing with blood instead of water represents the deviation or moral corruption of one’s wife. If a stream damages crops or runs destructively out of its course, it signifies bad news or impending harm. Blocking a stream’s path in a dream means separation between husband and wife, or abstaining from a sinful relationship between unmarried relatives. Standing behind a rivulet signifies that one’s wife will inherit him. If water flows toward one’s home and turns into blood, it signifies that another man will marry one’s wife after him. Drinking fresh water from a stream or rivulet signifies joy in living, vitality, and longevity, while drinking murky water signifies fear, hardship, or illness. Streams in a dream also represent the veins and blood circulating through the human body, symbolizing life itself, health, and the flow of strength and sustenance.
