Sleeping in a dream indicates heedlessness or lack of occupation. In general, sleep or drowsiness carries unfavorable meanings, except for one who is frightened or anticipating hardship, since sleep soothes fear, dispels anxiety, and calms distress. Sleeping in a cemetery signifies illness, while sleeping upon a grave means death for the sick and unemployment for the healthy. Sleep also points to stagnation, neglect, transgressing divine commands, or denying the consequences of doing so. At times, it may symbolize a blessed journey, such as seeking knowledge or performing righteous deeds, as well as turning away from worldly allure and its glitter. Seeing people asleep may represent widespread destruction, death, killings, rising prices, or matters hidden from public awareness. If people are uncertain about something and appear asleep, it means God will remove their blindness and grant them insight. Lying on one’s back signifies power and material success, while sleeping face down denotes loss of work or poverty. Sleeping on the ground means owning land, wealth, or having children. For an unmarried woman, sleep foretells imminent marriage. The sleep of an unjust ruler signals temporary relief for the people. Sleep may also mean intoxication of the mind, ecstasy, illness, neglect of duties, division, humiliation, or death. Sleeping beneath a tree indicates having many offspring.
