Islamic Interpretation

(Stronghold, Offspring, Vault of heaven, Celestial spheres, Dwelling, Parent, Vow, Sea, Jail, Instructor, City, Spouse, Marvels) In a vision, the sky denotes its own self. Whatever descends from that direction or emerges from it will come to pass. If flame rains down upon people's dwellings from the sky, it signifies epidemics, sickness, chest ailments, pustules, or mortality and ruin. If it falls upon a marketplace, it indicates rising costs. If it descends upon cultivated lands, it means crops may be scorched, frozen, or ravaged by locusts or other destructive pests. Beneficial things descending from above, such as honey, oil, figs, grain, or coin, signify timely rain and a bountiful harvest for that year. Whatever descends from the heavens, whether favorable or adverse, may also reflect the ruling authority and the difficulties or advantages it brings the populace. Ascending toward the sky using a rope, ladder, or steps denotes elevation, advancement in rank, fortune, and divine aid. If one climbs without a visible means, it suggests dread and haughtiness. If the intent is to observe others covertly, it may point to work as an informant. A safe descent means escaping and being pardoned from one's wrongdoing. A fall resulting in broken bones means a similar accident may occur in waking life. If an ill person climbs and does not return to earth, it may foretell death from that ailment. If he returns, his sickness will intensify and his trials peak, though by God's will he will recover unless he falls into a pit, which then signifies his grave. Seeing the sky shoot arrows that wound and cause bleeding represents levies and seizure of property by the state. If arrows strike only ears and eyes, great trials and seductions will afflict all. If arrows fall harmlessly and people gather them, they symbolize spoils to be won or a heavenly blessing to be shared. Drawing near to the sky in a vision means drawing close to one's Lord, especially for the devout and faithful. It also signifies a plea requiring an immediate response, which, God willing, will be granted. It may also indicate approaching a town governor, or anyone whose favor is sought—a teacher, scholar, father, or spouse. If the sky appears to collapse upon one's head, the roof of his house may give way, or he may perish from an existing malady. Climbing and entering the sky signifies dying as a martyr. Standing in the sky denotes commanding or reprimanding others. Looking down from the sky upon the earth signifies rising in status, followed by regret over a missed opportunity. A green sky heralds abundance and a good yield. A sky turned to iron signals drought or scant rain. Falling from the sky suggests abandoning faith, becoming a transgressor, or being struck by a great disaster brought by a tyrant. If the iron sky cracks and an elder emerges, he represents the forefather of the local community, and the people will enjoy bounty, prosperity, and joy. If a youth appears, he symbolizes an enemy and an evil about to befall them. A sheep emerging means gains; camels signify rain; a lion denotes a despotic ruler. A sky become one solid mass means drought. If it splits and its doors swing wide, it means rain or answered prayers. Reaching out to touch the sky means pursuing a major aim and failing to achieve it. Approaching the lower heavens means worldly acquisitions, profits, and standing in material or spiritual domains. Gazing at the sky, eastward or westward, signifies a journey. Stealing the sky and concealing it in a vessel means stealing a Qur'anic manuscript and hiding it with one's wife. A wide-open sky means blessings and benefits. Rising toward the sky lying flat means becoming wasted or suffering commercial losses. Rising effortlessly without lying on one's back means honor, success, and safety from enemies' harm. Biting the sky portends a calamity, business reverses, failure to achieve goals, or a dispute with a superior. Touring the sky and returning to earth means becoming a famed astronomer or astrologer. Leaning one's back against the sky means attaining leadership or overcoming rivals. Being in the sky in a non-human form means departing this world without divine favor. Hanging by a rope from the sky means succeeding to another's governance or inheriting his position; if the rope snaps, the opportunity is lost. A lit candle in the sky whose brilliance overshadows the sun's represents a solar eclipse. Seeing the sky being built before one's eyes means giving false testimony. Falling from the sky may also warn against falling into sin. Falling headfirst denotes a long life. Finding oneself in the sky without recalling how one arrived there means, God willing, one is already in paradise. Radiance or shimmering rays piercing the sky means divine guidance. Dark clouds passing through mean straying from the righteous path. A scourge descending means plagues and misfortunes will strike people as punishment for their sins or crimes. For the spiritually aware and learned, seeing the sky means lucidity, insight, focusing on heavenly concerns, journeying to far lands, or trading in imports and exports. Climbing into the sky may also signify falsehood, erroneous beliefs, deceit, or speaking about God Almighty without proper knowledge or guidance. It may also mean seeking provision, fulfilling needs, or keeping a promise. The skies may also represent the ocean due to their expanse and the multitude of creatures within, or the maturing of fruits, the completion of one's labors, a helmet, armor, a wife, wealth, faith, death, slander and falsehood against one who is raised then brought low, reconciliation with foes, the portions allotted to each of God's creations—good and evil—the sustenance of people and beasts, gains, losses, blessings, or afflictions.
