Islamic Interpretation
If one dreams of being sold as a captive in a slave market, it signifies honor when the purchaser is a woman, and trials when the buyer is a man. The greater the price fetched at auction, the more favorable or adverse one's fortune becomes. In the vision, the more the buyer loses, the better for the one sold, and conversely. There is a distinction between being auctioned and being sold; auctioning portends harm. To sell is to relinquish. In a dream, the buyer and seller exchange roles. Selling implies ascribing worth and merit to goods. If the item sold is worldly, then preference is given to one's rewards in the afterlife. Selling also denotes swapping one state for another. Bartering in a dream, however, means exchanging the usefulness of items or partaking in them. For instance, trading something worthless for something valuable, if the dreamer is a fighter, signifies dying a martyr. Selling a free person indicates a shift in authority and arriving at a commendable outcome, as occurred in the tale of Joseph, son of Jacob, peace be upon them both.
