Islamic Interpretation
To dream of the ocean signifies a vast and multifaceted symbol, encompassing constraint as a prison for its inhabitants, and representing loss, dread, and boundless sorrow, yet also infinite wisdom, an unprotected city, and the entire world with all its tribulations and marvels. The ocean further denotes a powerful, righteous, and compassionate ruler, revered and relied upon by the people. For a merchant, it mirrors his trade; for a laborer or student, it embodies his skilled master. Witnessing the ocean foretells success in one's aims. Entering its waters means approaching a person of authority, while resting on its shore suggests cautious employment under such a figure. Consuming all its water unseen signifies a long reign; drinking any portion indicates proportional wealth, and quenching thirst with it promises riches, vigor, and a long life. Requesting its water is to seek service with a mighty leader. Pouring seawater into a vessel heralds divine bounty, bestowing high rank and wealth, though status outlasts riches. Drinking from it also symbolizes gaining knowledge and upright conduct, while crossing it means obtaining spoils. Powerful, harmless waves reaching one's street announce the visit of a great personage. Bathing in the sea denotes repentance from sin. Viewing the ocean from afar warns of approaching community trials, and seeing it recede to reveal the seabed portends a loss of power, divine wrath, governmental strife, economic hardship, drought, or enemy attacks. Standing upon the water means receiving unanticipated blessings, and walking above it reflects pure intentions, clarity, strong faith, and certainty. A sick person performing ablution with seawater indicates recovery, debt repayment, or relief from worldly burdens. (Also see Water)
