Islamic Interpretation
In a vision, hearing the Quran, the teachings of God's Prophet (upon whom be peace), words of wisdom, an admonition, or a scholarly discourse signifies receiving guidance and turning repentantly to God. Conversely, hearing gossip, slander, defamation, or eavesdropping foretells that harm will befall the listener. Heeding good counsel and following its sound advice brings glad tidings. Eavesdropping indicates a tendency to defame others. Pretending not to hear what is said reveals a habitual liar. The noise of a crowd signifies wealth and other benefits. Sheep bleating denotes anxiety and dread. Horses neighing symbolizes power and honor. Dogs barking represents idle talk and meddling. The cry of a lynx signifies self-indulgence or licentiousness. Pigeons cooing indicates weeping, grief, or marriage. Swallows chirping means beneficial speech. Frogs croaking signifies physical beatings. The clang of bells or the hiss of snakes means conflict, dispute, a warning, or war. Donkeys braying means uttering curses in obscurity. Mules braying denotes meaningless talk or engaging in dubious acts. A cow mooing represents temptation. Camels gurgling signifies journeys and hardships. A lion's roar signifies intimidation. A tomcat's howl means tumult, backbiting, slander, and innuendo. Foxes yapping warns to flee or shift from one field to another. A wolf's howl foretells robbery. A mouse's squeak signifies gain, reunion, affection, and peace. A female gazelle's cry means yearning for one's homeland. A jackal's bark means a mission with good intent, or an impending evil.
