Perishing in water in a dream points to transgressing divine law and earning God's displeasure. Such a vision also signifies the danger of entering the Fire. If a person dies from drowning within the dream, he should guard against deviation from the true path or adopting religious innovations. Drowning at sea, then struggling and floating in an effort to survive, symbolizes preoccupation with worldly affairs to the neglect of spiritual duties. Yet, it may also indicate worldly success and establishing a strong position in one's trade. Emerging alive from the water represents correcting one's life and dedicating oneself properly to religious obligations. If, upon emerging, one sees oneself clothed in green garments, it foretells a pursuit of religious knowledge and success in attaining it. Should one drown and sink to the seabed, this warns of severe persecution by a powerful figure leading to ruin. Drowning in a dream can also symbolize death from sickness. Submersion in the salty sea signifies a revival of faith in God, while drowning in fresh water indicates the acquisition of immense wealth.
