Excavating the earth in a dream denotes profits equivalent to the amount of dry soil one accumulates. If the earth is wet, it signifies cheating another in a commercial affair, gaining only headache and fatigue in proportion to the earth moved, and the scheme may rebound on the digger. For an ill person or a member of their sick household, it may portend digging a grave. A traveling merchant who dreams this represents his journeys, with the gathered soil symbolizing his gains. Digging a pit, a well, or an irrigation channel to water plants means seeking employment to provide for one's family. Eating the soil one digs signifies profits obtained through deceit. Finding oneself inside the hole suggests a potential divorce from one's wife; standing outside and looking into it indicates a marital dispute ending in peace. A sick person emerging from a hole signifies recovery from illness or release from prison. Generally, digging the earth can mean wallowing in falsehood to earn only divine displeasure. Tunneling through a mountain denotes associating with a challenging but ultimately beneficial individual. Digging a well may represent a cunning and artful deceiver.
