Islamic Interpretation
If the new crescent moon is seen in its proper place in the sky within a dream, it signifies the birth of a fortunate son, appointment to a significant position, or profit from one's trade. Witnessing several crescents gathered together indicates performing the Hajj pilgrimage. A crimson-colored crescent foretells a pregnancy loss. Should a crescent fall to the ground in the dream, it symbolizes the arrival of an infant. Seeing the new moon when others see it but being unable to oneself denotes one's own death, or signifies deviation and wickedness in the coming year. Observing the crescent at an incorrect time heralds joyful news, a traveler's return, or a childbirth. The moon's first appearance also confirms the truthfulness of a promise or the receipt of money, as obligations often fall due at the month's start. A crescent appearing in an incorrect direction, such as the South or North, points to witnessing or committing a vile act that provokes disgust and may quickly fade, depending on the crescent's duration there. The new moon can also represent a ruler, sudden good tidings, the cry of a newborn, or an insurrectionist. If the crescent is shrouded in murky darkness, or if water or blood trickles from it without rain, it signifies a traveler's homecoming, a caller ascending the minaret for prayer, a preacher on his pulpit, debt repayment, completing the pilgrimage, or life's end. A dim, tarnished, or coppery crescent, or one shaped like a snake or scorpion, denotes evil. Seeing it on the correct night of its birth means one's wife will become pregnant. In dreams, the crescent can also symbolize a small child, turning away from sin, the removal of hardship, release from captivity, or recovery from sickness. Observing the crescent as it rises is more favorable than seeing it set. Its sudden disappearance means one's plan, goal, or desire will not come to pass. (Also see Moon)
