Islamic Interpretation
Within a dream, blindness symbolizes spiritual negligence, deviation from the right path, or the acquisition of an inheritance. A person who is blind in the vision signifies someone in a state of poverty, whose actions often lead to detriment in his religious standing. This condition can also foretell a catastrophe, an unexpected mishap, a streak of bad fortune, grief, injury, afflictions, or deep anxiety. Should a blind individual perceive himself clothed in new garments, it points toward his impending death. To dream of oneself as blind indicates outstanding debts or an obligatory pilgrimage. Having one's sight taken in a dream suggests a breaking of one's covenant with God. The onset of blindness can represent a fall from wealth into neediness, though it may also denote a state of acceptance and peace, or the loss of a loved one. If one's vision is extinguished by a flash of lightning, it signifies death. Blindness may further represent deafness, a conscious turning away from worldly affairs, a renunciation of material life, or the guarding of private matters. For a traveler, such a dream means he will not see his homeland again. For a prisoner, it heralds release from confinement. If seen by a seeker of knowledge, a student, or a merchant, it indicates his objectives may remain unattained. (Also see Body, Destruction, Eyes, Fear, One-eyed, World)
