Islamic Interpretation
Standing in the air in a dream signifies temporary honor, recognition, or notice from a governor or authority, though it will not last long. If a person is arrogant, self-important, filled with excessive expectations, or overly proud, then floating in the air reflects nothing more than confused or disturbed dreams. Walking in the air without rising or descending represents dignity, lawful earnings, and respect; if the dreamer is unfit for such elevation, it instead indicates travel. Hanging between heaven and earth symbolizes anxiety, hesitation, or uncertainty about one’s decisions. Falling in the air denotes despair, loss of rank, or decline in real life, though falling may also signal relief from hardship, fulfillment of needs, or release from burden. Clear, fresh, pleasant air indicates a favorable time for travel, whether for business or leisure. Air also symbolizes desire and passion; resisting one’s impulses in a dream represents entry into paradise, while following them indicates neglect of religious duties. Standing in the air and speaking loudly foretells blessings, favors, wealth, honor, and reputation. Sitting in the air reflects arrogance or self-deception about religious opinions. Building a structure in the air—such as a house, mat, or tent—signifies the death of a sick person, for what is built becomes the symbolic coffin. If a ruler sees this, it may predict his dismissal from office or his own death. Seeing such a vision after marriage or intimacy suggests mistrust, failure, or loss. It can also signify engaging in improper acts or lacking grounding in the Holy Book and prophetic traditions, since what is constructed has no foundation. Flying through the air signifies travel, while flying with wings is more favorable and powerful, the wings representing wealth or authority. Swimming in the air indicates benefits, trade journeys, or useful endeavors. If the air appears opaque so that the skies cannot be seen, it points to difficulties with one’s superior; if the dreamer has no superior, it may indicate loss of eyesight. If people collectively witness the air becoming thick, dark, or red, it signals a major calamity or severe adversity affecting the community. (Also see Ascending in the Skies; Flying.)
